Fun Summer Activities For You and Your Little

Summer is finally here and that means it’s time for festivals and parades in the Central Minnesota area.  One of the best things about these events is the price, FREE!  With festivals and events in the area growing every year, we figured we would outline some of the biggest and most popular ones!

With a brand new covered stage area being unveiled a few weeks ago, Summertime by George will be taking over the Lake George area every Wednesday night this summer!  With an opening Wednesday crowd on June 11th of 9,000 people this weekly event is sure to have something for everyone.  The area will include free live music from local and regional bands, local vendors, artisans, and a kid's zone for the entire family to enjoy!  The event runs from 5 p.m.- 9 p.m. with bands beginning to take the stage at 6:30 p.m.  A great way to spend an evening listening to live music, checking out some of the areas best vendors, and meeting people from the St. Cloud area.

Another great event quickly approaching is the annual Granite City Days from Thursday June 26th- Sunday June 29th.  The festivities begin on Thursday on the campus of Saint Cloud State University with the Lemonade Concert and Arts fair.  The art and craft fair runs from 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. with other things such as the Little Lemons Art Park, food vendors, and the farmers market taking place during that time.

The Granite City Days opening ceremony will take place at 6:30 p.m. at the Atwood Mall Mainstage followed by a performance by the St. Cloud Symphony Orchestra, which is sure not to disappoint!  Free public parking will be available in most campus lots for this event. Parking in the SCSU Ramp is available for an hourly fee or a daily rate of $8.00. Free shuttle service will be provided throughout the event from K and Q lots up to the north end of campus.

Friday night features the Liberty Savings Block Party at Whitney Park with a performance by the Charlie Daniels Band at 5 p.m.  Come out for more free music as well as food vendors and events such as air brush tattoos and fun hair stylists for kids!

Saturday is the famous Granite City Days Parade; the event starts at 10 a.m. near Hester Park and makes its way to the St. Cloud Public Library.  Make sure to get there early to grab a spot along the route!

This awesome weekend is capped off on Sunday with a 5k run/ walk, a fishing derby and expo at Lake George from 10 a.m.- 3 p.m., followed by Hams Music Summer Showcase at the Lake George concert center.  This showcase features local artists such as Kris Towne, Dave Cofell and Andrew Hammer, Sweet Papa Dave, and Sell Out Stereo.  Make your way to one or all of these amazing events, but you wont want to miss out on any!
